Company Overview

ILEX Systems, Inc., incorporated in the State of California, began operations in January 1982. The company was formed to develop, manufacture, and market state-of-the-art communications and other computer-based products and to provide complementary engineering services to client organizations. In March 1998, ILEX was purchased by L3 Communications Corp., a leading merchant supplier of secure communications products, microwave components, avionics and ocean systems and telemetry, instrumentation, space and wireless products.

ILEX has grown steadily and profitably since its inception. Today, the ILEX staff number over 1000 outstanding professionals applying software technology to solve real-time system problems and providing a broad range of consulting and engineering support services. ILEX is structured into two operating units: Defense Systems Services Division (DSSD) and Navy and Aviation Systems Division (NASD). These units provide similar support – software development/maintenance, configuration management, testing and integration, training and on-site customer support – but to different functional domains. DSSD focuses on support to the Army and other Defense Department elements, while NASD principally supports the FAA and the Navy.

Defense System Services Division (DSSD)

In 1986, ILEX acquired COMCON, Inc. and its sister organization, COMCON Services Company, Inc., which were combined into ILEX and continue as the DSSD. COMCON commenced operations in January 1974 as a developer of software for U.S. Army Intelligence systems. DSSD gained complementary command, control and communications-related capabilities in 2002 with L-3 ILEX's acquisition of Telos California, a leading provider of software services for Army maneuver control and tactical/satellite communications systems since 1983.

DSSD is well known for providing comprehensive engineering support to Army and Joint-Service Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems, ranging from multi-sensor collection and intelligence fusion systems to battlefield communications switching systems. DSSD's support to these systems encompasses initial acquisition support, independent verification and validation (IV&V) services, fielding and on-site support, test bed and simulator development, and post-production software support (PPSS), including rapid reprogramming of threat data and operator training.

Navy and Aviation Systems Division (NASD)

In June 2000, L-3 Communications purchased Atlantic Science & Technology Corp and in September 2005 purchased JSA Associates. These two companies were then merged into ILEX's Navy and Aviation Systems Division (NASD). In support of one of its major customers, the FAA, NASD provides software and system maintenance; project engineering; simulation and scenario development/execution; laboratory design, implementation and operations; program and contract management; financial analysis; business process re-engineering; airport simulation and modeling and information security, and support services for the William J. Hughes Technical Center. NASD also provides systems and software engineering services for the U.S. Navy on AEGIS and other surface warfare programs.
